The Jim Torlach Scholarship
James Milne Torlach (1938 – 2006) made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of safety and health in the mining industry in Western Australia, being responsible for the complete overhaul and modernisation of mine safety legislation culminating in the passage of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994.
This perpetual scholarship honours his memory. The scholarship provides payment of all HECS fees for the 3 years of study in the Bachelor of Science (Health and Safety) and practical experience working in occupational safety and health in the mining industry.
Eligibility Criteria.
- A Student enrolled in course 155410 Bachelor of Science (Health and Safety) who will complete 3 years of full time on campus study in this course.
- Send the following information to the International Society of Mine Safety Professionals (Australia) at Suite 5, 12 Brodie-Hall Drive, Technology Park, Bentley, Western Australia, 6102:
- CV. For students who have completed year 12 at High School please include your Year 12 study results.
- In about 150 words write a letter describing why you would like to apply the knowledge that you gain in the Bachelor of Science (Health and Safety) to working as an occupational safety and health professional in the Mining, Energy or Resources Industry.
- Enclose a statement from two (2) referees who believe that you could successfully complete this degree.
