| Respondent Driven Sampling & Field Methods in International Health Training |

The RDS & Field Methods Course 3-7 November 2008 will include a practical discussion on the technique of respondent driven sampling in the context of HIV/AIDS in the developing world, and other means of sampling, interviewing or observing people in the field to learn about different aspects of their health status, beliefs and behaviours. The course will reinforce your academic understanding, as well as teaching practical field techniques that can be applied in developing world settings, whether you are a manager, practitioner or researcher. The course is suitable for individuals working in resource poor settings in health including HIV programs and is relevant to all kinds of health workers, including nurses, doctors, nutritionists, social workers, public health personnel as well as academics, researchers, postgraduate students, and program managers. | International HIV/AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Training Course |

Run By: The Centre for International Health, Curtin University
The HIV Monitoring & Evaluation Course 9-13 February 2009 is intended for postgraduate students and has been designed to equip HIV/AIDS practitioners with the concepts and practical skills required to design and manage effective monitoring and evaluation systems. It is intended for students with an interest in international and public health whose future employment will take them into the agencies and government organisations with responsibilities for HIV M&E planning and implementation, HIV project management and research work and information and line management. The programme is attractive to people working in Australia and intending to work overseas or people currently working in PNG, the South Pacific Region as well as South East Asia and Africa.

| Medical Science Short Course |
|
Course Date: 2 July till 30 June An online short course providing an introduction to pharmacology and medications used in the treatment of patients and an improved understanding of disease processes. Disease conditions are reviewed according to ICD-10-AM chapter headings and include the cause of disease, pathophysiological changes, signs and symptoms, treatment and management. This course would be ideal for Clinical Coders wishing to increase their knowledge and improve the quality and accuracy of their clinical coding. Students completing the course will receive a certificate of completion. If they apply to do the Health Information Management Course at Curtin University they will receive credit for completing this unit. | Laboratory Competencies Courses |
|
Course date: During O-week 1st and 2nd semester, and as required. The aim of this course is to ensure that the student has the skills necessary to work safely under low-level supervision in the laboratories of the School of Public Health. It is divided into separate modules: Laboratory Safety, Calculations and Use of Equipment. Each module should be worked through in order and the brief exercises completed. Upon successful completion of the competency course, students will be able to: perform laboratory research analysis using the basic laboratory equipment.
understand the purpose of the analysis procedure
develop an understanding of the laboratory skills necessary for independent laboratory work
demonstrate the awareness of laboratory safety
