Job Description

Health Promotions Professionals have the knowledge and skills to plan and implement, and evaluate health promotion programs in various settings including clinical, school, worksite and the community.

Options: Research & Development

The WA Centre for Health Promotion Research (WACHPR) was established in 1986 as an initiative of the Department of Health Promotion and the School of Public Health. Since its inception the WACHPR has attracted more than $6 million in grants for research and training. This multi-disciplinary research Centre has been devoted to encouraging and training staff and students who are interested in being involved in applied public health research.

The WACHPR has achieved local, national and international recognition for its work in school and community-based intervention research, especially in the areas of youth health, injury control, mental health, skin cancer prevention, smoking cessation and teacher implementation.

Potential Employers

Curtin health promotion graduates are sought after by employers. Typically students enrolling in these courses would look to careers such as working in government organisations, non-government / community-based organisations major companies and teaching health education in schools.

Employment can be found in programs at the Health Department of Western Australia in areas such as Injury Control, Disease Control, Women's Cancer, Alcohol & Other Drugs and QUIT. In addition graduates are employed in non-government organisations such as the National Heart Foundation, Asthma Foundation, Cancer Foundation and Divisions of General Practice or health related research.

Students can also work overseas in developing countries and can structure their course of study to reflect this interest. The program attracts international students from areas overseas such as the USA, Pacific Islands, Japan and South East Asia, who go back to work in their countries.
