Job Description

Health and Safety Professionals are educated and trained in skills including risk assessment, organisational behaviour, the sciences, management, toxicology, industrial relations and environmental science.

Estimated Salary:

$55,000 (new graduate) to $345,000

In Western Australia employers often pay a premium to staff working on remote sites or shift work.

Potential Employers

Almost every medium or large sized organisation has access to a health and safety professional, whether it be in-house, consultant or governmental advisor. In Western Australia employers include mining industry organisations, health and safety consultants and governmental departments (WorkSafe and Dept. Minerals and Petroleum Resources).

Post-graduate students with a nursing, allied health, management, sciences, engineering background are well sought after by employers.

Career Structures

Often new graduates spend 2 to 3 years learning about their industry before looking to more challenging roles, and a professional Masters course.

Employment Opportunities

The opportunities for Health and Safety graduates are enormous because of the desirability across all industry for the qualifications. The weekend papers usually contain between 3 and 15 jobs suitable for graduates. We also post some opportunities to our Opportunities section of our website.
