The School of Public Health are running several short courses over the University mid-semester break (June and July - course dates vary). These intensive short courses consist of
workshops, lectures and interactive activities.
Course Availability and Cost
Non-Curtin students: $980 per unit. Units
will run over four consecutive days. No formal
assessment.
Curtin students: Current students should
complete a standard enrolment form and will
complete the course over 5 days. Assessment
included.

Health Promotion
Planning, Methods
and Evaluation
Dates: 14-17 July 2008
Provides an introduction to the theory and practice of health
promotion with an emphasis on the skills required to deliver
a successful health promotion intervention. Health promotion
aims to improve the wellbeing of individuals, groups and the
community through broad ranging, creative interventions. This
course is suitable for those already working in the health sector
and those wanting to move into this area.

Nutrition in Developing Countries
Dates: 14-18 July 2008
Nutrition remains the major determinant of health and
development in most of the less developed countries. This unit
provides an introduction to nutrition, health and development for
students who are working in the developing world or for those
who are seeking an understanding of global health and nutrition
issues. Prior knowledge of basic nutrition, human physiology and
epidemiology is assumed.

and Values in the

An exploration and understanding of sexuality values and
attitudes, psychosexual development, sexual functioning,
sexual behaviours, paraphilias and introductory aspects to
sexuality education and counselling. Recommended for all health

Sex Education,
Counselling and Legalities
of Sexual Expression - CANCELLED
Dates: 7-11 July 2008
An exploration and understanding of models of sexuality
education and counselling for a range of diverse groups: school
based education, education and counselling people with
intellectual disability, working with parents as primary sexuality
educators, aged care education, disability and rehabilitation,
protective behaviours, counselling aspects of sexual difficulties
and inappropriate sexual behaviours, sexual problems,
management of sex offenders. Recommended for all health
professionals and those researching and writing on
sexuality issues.

Communicable Diseases
Dates: 7-11 July 2008
The control of communicable disease is vital for the maintenance
of good community health. While the challenges in Australia
are somewhat different from those in developing countries,
the principles of communicable disease control are the same.
The effective control of specific communicable disease threats
requires an understanding of the whole range of public health
strategies that could be applied in particular situation.
